Brenda becomes pregnant as a teenager, which is unacceptable in Deacon’s eyes. Deacon told Brenda that she is ruined and no man would want her. "The Baptist Junkie" by Telishia Berry is story of forgiveness. Brenda grows up in a family where they were taught to live their lives as children of God. Brenda was curious about the life that her father preached so hard against.That curiosity lead her to make a decision that ultimately changes her life. She felt she bought shame and disappointment to her family. Brenda was not strong enough to deal with the consequences of her actions. In "The Baptist Junkie" we follow her through her downfall. We watch her hit rock bottom thinking that she will not recover. You will find yourself praying that she falls on her knees and just start praying. You get caught up in her life and you know that the only thing that will save her is prayer. Through it all she always has her father voice whispering in her ear. Either quoting bible verses or condemning her for her mistake. Which one of the voices are stronger?
Once Brenda learns to forgive herself she will begin to heal.
Do not be surprised if you know Brenda or even if you are Brenda.
You will enjoy "Baptist Junkie"

This book is an awesome story of redemption and family. The father may have been too much, but he loved his daughters. very real.
This was a very good book. I happen to live in Saginaw 30 miles from Flint. This book was so real to me, some of the places she talked about I knew about. Brenda was around my age, I remember the records they played as I played them to. This was a book that can be used for self help. All praises go up.
It was an eye opener. I enjoyed this book.
